Modification. It’s not a bad word, I promise! Sometimes it’s completely necessary.
A couple weeks ago, I decided to go hard or go home with back squats. I was in the middle of Ufit18 (6 week fitness challenge) and I was determined to get a certain number in my head. Well during one of the squats, I heard my knee make a funny noise. I really didn’t want to complain about it and figured it would just go away. Fast forward a few weeks and I just made it worse by not properly taking care of the strain.
The good news: nothing is seriously wrong with it.
The bad news: it set me back because I need to take it easy so I don’t do something serious to it.
Today’s wod was…..back squats. I suppose you could say my confidence wasn’t quite there, but I really don’t want to screw up my knee more. So coach said to use a box. As you can see from the IG photos below, my workout wasn’t compromised at all calorie wise. I still worked hard, I still did the workout, but I did it without making my knee hate me in the end.
The biggest thing I’ve learned over the last several months from going to Pure Fitness is that no one is going to shame you for doing modifications. You go and do what you can. As long as you are striving to improve, you get an A+ for the day.
The point to my ramblings is….if you aren’t starting because you think you can’t do it, then you’re wrong! If a gym won’t work with you and the modification you need…go find another gym or coach. Come to my gym if you live in Temple, Texas! I have the best class in the world.
